Seymour Dental ServicesTongue & Lip-ties

Tongue-tie

A congenital condition that restricts the tongue's function and/or range of motion. An unusually short, thick or tight band of tissue (lingual frenulum) tethers the tongue to the floor of the mouth.

For infants with breastfeeding issues, we require an assessment and referral from an approved referral source (i.e.: IBCLC, Medical doctor, Paediatrician, Midwife, Nurse Practitioner).

For old children and adults, we perform a functional frenuloplasty (sutures are used to stitch up the tongue). Myofunctional therapy is a pre and post procedure requisite.

We have an in house myofunctional therapist and we also work with several out-of-town therapists.

Lip-tie

A congenital condition that interferes with normal movement and function of the upper lip. The labial frenulum is too thick, tight or attached too low on the maxilla.
